How to get to Klaipeda?

Klaipeda is located in the northern part of Lithuania, at the junction of the Baltic Sea and the Curonian Lagoon. You can get here either by train (from Vilnius , Kretinga, Kaunas or Siauliai) or by motor transport - bus routes connect Klaipeda with all major cities of Lithuania .


What to see in Klaipeda?

Those who come to rest in Klaipeda do not have this question - there are so many old and not so interesting things that they do not need to be specially looked for. But first things first.

  1. The main attraction of Klaipeda, its pride and business card, attracting thousands of tourists annually - the Maritime Museum . In its walls are collected the Nature Museum of the Curonian Spit, an aquarium, a dolphinarium and a museum. The Maritime Museum is comfortably located on the territory of the defensive fortress Kopgalis.   4. An interesting visit will also be to the Klaipeda Castle Museum , a modern and original selection of which tells about all the stages of the castle's life, beginning with the foundation in 1252.
  5. Lovers of history should go for a walk along the streets of Old Klaipeda , which is located on the left bank of the Dan River. Here, every stone on the pavement breathes history, not to mention the buildings. Klaipeda was founded in the middle of the 13th century and originally bore the name of Memel. It was built by the Germans and for the Germans, so the Lithuanian population did not have the right to settle in the city and its environs. Only after the end of World War II and the expulsion of Germans, the city was populated by Russians, Lithuanians and Belarusians. Unfortunately, the Old City was badly damaged during the military operations, but today active work is under way to restore it.
  6. One of the houses of Old Klaipeda can tell everyone interested in the history of the emergence of the city's name. It's about the house with the dragon that stands on the street Turgaus. During the rain from the mouth of the dragon, water flows into the trail left by the brother of the founder of the city. And the name of the city is translated from Lithuanian as a "trail".
