Kromberk Castle

Usually a castle is understood as a series of powerful structures, surrounded by a wall with a moat, built in an impregnable place. The Castle of Obrábkr ( Slovenia ) is unique in this regard. It is located near Nova Gorica, among the vineyards and is part of the Goritsky Museum. At the same time the structure was erected at an altitude of 116 m.

What is interesting about Castle Cromberk?

Built in the 17th century, the castle of Cromberk is a square building, in the corners of which there are towers. The three-storey building is decorated in the Renaissance style and is surrounded by a park. Despite the fact that the castle is different from most similar buildings in Slovenia, it looks impressive.

Time and wars left a notable mark on the appearance of the structure. Many parts of the castle were destroyed and can not be restored. Nevertheless, tourists will be able to see the remains of the former beauty and power, although the wall of the castle district is more intended to hide the daily life of the owners than for the defense.

Castle Cromberk was built by Count Henrik Dornberski, and then sold to the family of Coronini. She owned the castle until 1954, when the building became the residence of the Goritsky Museum. Before we managed to place inside the exposition, extensive repairs were carried out, as the castle was burnt in the First World War, suffered from an earthquake and World War II. After all the restoration works, part of the living quarters and some administrative buildings have been preserved.

On the ground floor an art gallery is opened, the exhibits of which are works in baroque style from the Middle Ages. Among them there is a portrait of Emperor Franz Joseph I. The exposition contains clothes, photographs and furniture of the XIX century. One of the notable items is one of the first models of a sewing machine. The second floor of the castle is occupied by the archaeological and ethnological departments.

Inspecting should not only internal premises, but also the area around the castle. It is decorated in the Baroque style, like a round fountain, installed in the middle of 1774. The castle often hosts seminars and temporary exhibitions.

The main feature of the park around the castle is the presence of a large number of greenery and the absence of flowers. For planting, gardeners are watching, so they look neat. Walking along the alleys is not boring, because, since the park has all the shades of green. In the park there is an amphitheater and a lapidarium (an exposition of samples of ancient writing that are made on stones).
