National Museum of Costa Rica

There are a lot of interesting sights on the territory of Costa Rica . Most of them are of a natural nature, but in this paradise corner there are many museums that introduce all the guests of the country to the amazing history and culture of the state. One of the most visited is the National Museum of Costa Rica (Museo Nacional de Costa Rica). Let's talk more about it.

What is interesting about the museum?

The building of the country's main museum is located in the heart of the capital San Jose in an ancient fortress (Bellavista Fortress). The walls of the structure were badly damaged during the Civil War of 1948, which affected the appearance of the fortress.

All the halls of the museum are thematically divided. There are rooms dedicated to the geography, religion, archeology and modern history of Costa Rica, and the entrance to the museum on the east side will take you to the courtyard that displays the times of pre-Columbian America.

The exposition of the National Museum in San Jose presents Indian artifacts made of stone or clay, a bit reminiscent of ceramic products. Another significant exhibit of the museum is the Nobel Peace Prize, which was awarded to Oscar Arias - an outstanding statesman of Costa Rica.
