Levera National Park

Levera National Park is located on the northern tip of Grenada , next to the arrival of St. Patrick. Laguna Levera is a natural reserve located on the border of the Caribbean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the vast mangrove swamp. The park was created in 1992, it is relatively small - its area is only 182.1 hectares (450 acres). Levera Park is considered one of the most picturesque parts of the coast of Grenada .

Flora and fauna of the national park

The park is home to more than 80 different species of birds, including green herons, snipe, black stilt walkers, scarlet ibises, blue-winged teal, which settle next to the mangrove swamp and on the shore of a pond with an area of just over 9 hectares.

The coast of the bay is home to leathery sea turtles - this is where they lay their eggs. Tortoises of the masonry are carefully protected by the employees of the national park, because these animals are under threat of extinction. Females lay their eggs about in April, and in June-July the hatchlings of the tortoise pass their first way to the sea. You can see this by going on a special night excursion.

Part of the sea near Levera also belongs to the protected area. Here, whole fields of algae grow, in which lobsters and other marine inhabitants live. The fields are interspersed with coral reefs of amazing beauty. Here is one of the most popular beaches on the island, because thanks to the protection of coral reefs, you can swim completely calmly, without fear of sharks and other marine predators.
