History of the palace

The palace was rebuilt in 1776-1780 by the decree of Catherine II. Designed by the architect Matvey Kazakov as a place where to know and important people could rest after a long journey from Petersburg to Moscow.

After the fire that destroyed the city in 1812, the Petrovsky Palace in Moscow was almost completely ruined. The reconstruction of the building began later, under Nicholas I, and lasted for 10 years. The architects N.A. Shokhin and A.A. Martynov.

After 1998, a number of restoration works were carried out in the palace with the aim of complete reconstruction of the premises. The Moscow authorities decided to redo the building from the royal apartments to the elite class hotel. The works lasted 11 years, and by spring 2009 the palace again opened its doors to the guests of the highest level.

The hotel offers visitors accommodation in one of 43 comfortable rooms. Some of them are unique royal apartments.
