This food additive is allowed in Russia, Ukraine and EU countries. It is considered to be low-toxic and does not cause allergic reactions. However, polyphosphates are very slowly eliminated from the body, so people who use foods with this additive for a long time, these compounds accumulate. Experts have found that E452 can cause digestive disorders. This is the potential harm of E452.

In addition, this additive has a number of other effects.

  1. Polyphosphates take part in the synthesis of platelets, stimulating their production.
  2. These connections activate one of the coagulation factors.
  3. There is an opinion that E452 affects fat metabolism, contributing to the increase of "bad" cholesterol .
  4. The conducted researches also allowed to assume that in large quantities this additive works as a carcinogen, that is, it can lead to the development of oncological diseases.

Thus, people with increased viscosity and blood coagulability, having an increased level of cholesterol, use products with polyphosphates better than possible to limit. It is not possible to answer the exact question whether E452 is harmful or not, but if you do not abuse the products with this additive, nothing terrible will happen.
