Seeding of root canals is a responsible process and requires certain preparatory stages. Most often, the canal is made during the treatment of teeth affected by caries, inflammation of the pulp and periodontitis .
Preparation for filling
This process consists of several important stages, the observance of the technology of which will become the guarantee of a qualitatively conducted procedure:
- Removal of damaged tooth tissues.
- Removal of pulp (connective tissue, with the inclusion of blood and lymph vessels).
- Carrying out an examination using an X-ray apparatus to determine the branching and depth of the root canals.
- Cleaning, leveling the walls and expanding the channels with special tools.
Types of filling
Seeding of the root canal can be temporary. This type of sealing is used in the inflammatory process in tissues that require treatment with the use of special pastes. Pastes can contain:
- antibiotic;
- corticosteroids ;
- metronidazole or calcium hydroxide.
They are laid in the inflamed cavity and the temporary filling of the root canals is performed.
In the case when no additional treatment is required, a permanent filling of the root canals is performed immediately. In this case, the prepared channel is treated with Cresophene or Parkan (solutions-disinfectants).
Methods of sealing
There are several basic methods for sealing the root canal:
- with the use of special dental pastes;
- using a pin that can be made from gutta-percha, titanium, less often silver;
- combined method, with simultaneous application of a pin and paste (Thermophil system);
- with the help of cold and heated gutta-percha.
Materials for sealing
Materials for sealing root canals must meet several requirements:
- be especially strong and not decompose under the influence of organic and tissue liquids;
- be leakproof;
- have radiopaque;
- Do not induce irritation and allergic reactions.
In modern dentistry paste for root canal filling is used:
- polymeric silvers;
- glass ionomer cements (more often used in pediatric dentistry);
- polydimethylsiloxanes;
- cement with calcium hydroxide.
Methods of mummification and filling with resorcinol-formalin mixture were also common. At present, these methods have become obsolete and are practically not used.
