Stimulation of labor

Stimulation of labor is a procedure performed by pregnant women in order to provoke uterine contractions, in other words - to cause contractions.

When it is necessary?

The decision on the need to stimulate delivery is taken by a gynecologist if he fears the health of the child or mother. It must be remembered that the stimulation of labor is fraught with certain risks. Therefore, the doctor appoints the procedure only when it is truly necessary, and all the pluses outweigh the cons.

Stimulation of labor in the hospital is made only after the doctor assesses some factors related to the health of the mother and child, the size of the baby, its gestational age and position in the uterus.

Artificial stimulation of labor is indicated if:

Procedure for the stimulation of labor

First of all, the mother is prepared, introducing her drugs containing estrogen, ascorbic acid, calcium chloride B1, riboxin, Essentiale and antispasmodics. A puncture of the amniotic bladder is made, in the case when it is still intact. Also, the doctor can make the separation of the amniotic sac from the walls of the uterus, which does not cause an instantaneous result, but brings the onset of contractions closer.

As a rule, contractions after water drainage become more intense, because after that the pressure inside the uterus drops sharply and the baby's head begins to press on the pelvic bone, to open the cervix, which provokes birth.

If all these measures do not strengthen the labor activity, rhodostimulation begins immediately. It is produced with the help of drugs that help reduce the uterus.

To do this, use pills, gel or candles to stimulate childbirth. Such methods are sparing during the stimulation of labor. With the introduction of special gels and candles into the cervix, its accelerated preparation for childbirth takes place, since a special hormonal background is created. These drugs contain prostaglandins - biologically active substances that help the cervix smooth out and shorten. Generic activities after such procedures can begin in 40 minutes, or later. Everything depends on the individual characteristics of the body.

Tablets for stimulation of childbirth take orally. Their action is aimed at increasing the tone and contractile activity of the uterine muscles.

If childbirth after such stimulation still does not begin, stimulation of genera with oxytocin - a synthesized analogue of the hormone, which is produced in the pituitary gland - is prescribed. Usually oxytocin is administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously (by drop). The disadvantage of droplet injection of oxytocin is the forced limitation of maternity movements. Introduces oxytocin in combination with antispasmodics, as it greatly strengthens the labor pain.

Stimulation of childbirth - for and against

As already mentioned, the stimulation of childbirth carries certain risks and consequences. However, with a competent doctor's approach, all risks are minimized, and the stimulation itself is performed only when urgently needed. But the answer to the question of whether it is harmful to stimulate labor at home and through non-medical methods without first consulting a doctor is clearly harmful, and sometimes dangerous.

Attempts of self-stimulation by non-medical methods, such as, for example, castor oil for the stimulation of labor, are risky, too extreme and not the safest for the mother. In particular, the use of castor oil can cause a vomiting reflex and a strong bowel disorder, which inevitably leads to dehydration of the body.
