The Pivka River is a very picturesque sight, therefore it is very popular with tourists.

The Pivka River - description

The total length of the river is about 27 km, and the total area of its basin is about 2000 km². The Pivka River flows into the Black Sea, although the Adriatic is in close proximity to it. In the river Pivka siphons are formed, which have different diameters and steep turns of water and rifts, where it is very dangerous for swimmers to be, because there is a swift current. The greatest amount of water in the river is observed in January and May, and it dries in the period from October to August. One of the biggest and most delightful mergers of underground rivers in Europe is the combination of Pivka and Raki.

The Grand Cave The Postojna Pit was discovered in the valley of the river in the 17th century. At the beginning of the 19th century a local resident, Luka Cech, explored 300 m of cave passages and began to invite people to inspect them. To date, about 5 km are open for inspection. In the cave even carried electricity, so the attraction can be viewed in the light. Directly in the cave is the underground river bed, and the water ditches created by it are located. The water under the ground is incredibly clean, transparent and cold, because in the cave of the Postojna Pit the temperature is never understood above 8 ° C.

Visitors can watch the movement of the river in the cave, as it formed a cave with its power, and transformed it for several millennia. Water has created amazing galleries, which amaze with their different forms and fantastic sculptures. She built such delightful forms of limestone formations and washed all that is superfluous, eventually it falls lower and a part of it flows under the cave. One of the most famous masterpieces is the stalagmite Cypress, which consists of thin thread strings and shimmers in different shades, from pink to red.
