St. Jakob Park

Do not mislead the word "park" in the table of contents, since it will not be about him. St. Jakob Park is the home stadium of the Basel football club. It was reconstructed in 2001, especially for the matches of the European Championships in 2008. Earlier this place was occupied by the Yoggel Stadium, but its capacity was too small for such a grandiose event. Therefore, he received a second life, becoming the largest stadium in Basel and transformed into St. Jacob Park.

How do we see St. Jakob Park today?

Today the capacity of the stadium is about 40 thousand seats. Outwardly it has a square shape with right angles. Tribunes are located in two tiers, above them is a flat roof. On both sides there are two large monitors on which the most exciting moments are broadcast during the game.

Interestingly, there are no obstacles between the main platform in sector A and the playing field, while other sectors separate advertising banners. There are also grids, which are designed to catch various objects and debris, so that they do not interfere with players on the field. And after the riots and fights in 2006, the guest sector is surrounded by a high fence.

Right next to the St. Jacob Stadium in Basel, there is a huge shopping center. It accommodates various boutiques of famous brands, jewelry stores, several restaurants and cafes. In addition, one can find here one of the most interesting museums of the city - the museum of the football club "Basel". Also at the St. Jacob Park in Switzerland , various concerts, rock festivals and festivities are held every year.

Football fans this place was remembered by the fact that at the 2008 European Championships it was here that the Russian national team defeated the Netherlands team with a score of 3: 0.

Another interesting fact in the history of the stadium is the case when the organizer was able to change the field right during the match. This happened in June 2008, during the match Switzerland-Turkey, when the strongest downpour put out of action the game cover.

How to get there?

The stadium is located St. Jakob Park in the eastern part of Basel, in the quarter of St. Alban. Bypasses the city railway network, so you can easily get there by train to the station Basel St. Jakob. There are also bus and tram routes near the stadium. By the bus stop Basel St. Jakob runs the 14th tram line and bus routes Nos. 36 and 37. In addition, the St. Jakob Park Stadium is located near the major E25 motorway, which is of international importance.
