Anatomical Museum of the University of Basel


The Basel Anatomical Museum was established at the Department of the Medical Faculty of the University of Basel, the oldest in Switzerland , on the initiative of the scientist Karl Gustav Jung in 1924. This is not the most popular place for tourists; rather, it will arouse interest among a narrow circle of people - medical students or children interested in building a human being, but if the roads lead you to this wonderful town, then we advise you not to ignore this museum either, because here collected a huge number of exhibits, allowing detailed study of the anatomy of the human body.

Exposition of the museum

All the museum exhibits are divided into thematic topics, for example, in the "Human Nervous System" exposition, alongside the model of the brain, other exhibits are presented that show the work of the nervous system in detail. The crown of the collection of the Anatomical Museum of the University of Basel can easily be called the skeleton of a man, preserved from 1543 and restored with the help of modern technology.

Surprising and models of wax, created by the founder of the museum in 1850, as well as an exhibition of prostheses and implants and a separate exposition devoted to the intrauterine development of man. In addition to regular exhibitions in the Anatomical Museum of the University of Basel, temporary exhibits are regularly placed, and many models can be studied using interactive technologies. Anatomical Museum of Basel, along with other 40 museums of the city annually takes part in the action "Night of Museums".

How to get there and when to visit?

The Anatomical Museum of the University of Basel is open to visitors from 14.00 to 17.00 - on weekdays, from 10.00 to 16.00 - on Sunday, on Saturday, the New Year and Christmas holidays the museum does not work. Admission to the museum is paid, the ticket price for an adult is 8 CHF, for students and children from 12 to 18 years - 5 CHF, children up to 11 years old, medical students and Pass Musees card holders are free.
