Cape Formentor

If you go from Palma to the northeast, then you will arrive at a place that locals themselves jokingly call "the edge of the earth." Cape Formentor (Mallorca) - one of the most picturesque and beautiful places of the island, the leader in the number of visits by tourists. Cape Formentor, even in Mallorca, where all the sights are under the close scrutiny of the authorities, has a special status. That is why nature is preserved here in a virtually primordial world, and even in Majorca you can not find anywhere else such impressive, sometimes even contrast, landscapes.

Cape Formentor is located on the north-eastern part of the island. It borders the Pollensa Bay and extends far into the strait separating Mallorca and Menorca. On the promontory there is a famous beach Formentor - one of the purest in Mallorca. The air here is without exaggeration inimitable - there is nowhere to be found such an amazing combination of fresh sea breeze and sun-warmed pine forest (the beach in fact is a rather narrow 8-meter strip of clean fine sand between the sea and a pine forest, its length is 850 meters) . The beach of Cala Formentor was awarded the blue flag.

In addition, there are never waves. However, the position of "lifeguard" on the beach Formentor in Mallorca still exists - because there is an opportunity to rent a jet ski, then there is a need for rescuers.

Almost on the beach is the famous five-star hotel Barcelo Formentor, the most fashionable in Mallorca. If you stay in it - you can park your car in the hotel parking lot; if you live in some other place, then, having reached the fork in the road (one leads to the beach, the other to the lighthouse), you will be forced to leave the car and continue on foot.

Lighthouse

One of the main attractions of Mallorca is the Formentor lighthouse, the address and photos of which can be found on virtually any tourist booklet.

The Formentor lighthouse is located on a rock with a beautiful view of the bay and the promontory. On the way to the lighthouse (and here you have to get either by car or on foot, and going from the nearest bus stop will be quite far away) now and then there are observation platforms. From them you can admire the views of the island - the lighthouse is located at an altitude of 200 meters above sea level - the vast expanses of the sea, see the rocky island of Kolomer. One of the most famous is the mirador de la Creueta.

The lighthouse was built long enough - as long as six years. Such "long-term construction" was caused by the difficulty of access to the construction site. More than one and a half centuries ago, in 1863, it was lit for the first time and functions to this day; now he works on solar panels, his work is fully automated. Inside there is a cafe.

How to get there?

Naturally, anyone wishing to visit Cape Formentor (Mallorca) raises the question of how to get there. You can buy an excursion to Polensu - in this, in general, a small town also has something to see: both ancient buildings and a staircase about 365 steps, along which the procession of believers is raised every year on Good Friday. After visiting Polensy you will go to the cape.

You can rent a car (the cost of parking the car is 5-6 euros - depending on the parking place) or to get to Cape Formentor by bus. The mountain highway that leads here from Polensa can also be referred to the sights - a trip on it is a kind of attraction, and it passes through the most picturesque places of the Tramuntana mountains .

In addition, from the port of Pollensa you can reach Formentor beach by boat.

One of the nearest attractions to the cape is the Castle of Capdepera (it is located just over 35 km) and the monastery of Lluc (about 24 km to it).
