Volcano Mihara

The main attraction of the island of Izuoshima in Japan is the volcano Mihara. The height of the peak of the giant reaches 764 m. Mihara is an active volcano, eruptions occur every 100 to 150 years.

The eruption of Mihara

The last eruption of the fiery mountain was recorded in 1986. In those days, Izuoshima Island was cut by streams of red-hot lava, which in some places rose to a height of 1.5 km. Everywhere towering columns of ash, the highest reached 16 km. The strength of the eruption of Mihara was 3 points. The islanders were evacuated with the help of army and civilian courts.

The Last Haven of Unhappy Lovers

Unfortunately, the Mihara volcano in Japan attracts not only brave explorers and curious tourists, it has been a favorite place for suicides for many years. The first suicide on the top of the volcano was committed by student Kiyoko Matsumoto on February 11, 1933. The unhappy fell in love with a friend, but at that time such relations were strictly forbidden. Kiyoko brought scores to life, rushing into the red-hot muzzle.

Since then, the number of suicides committed on the volcano Mihara, weekly increased. For example, in 1934 944 Japanese were killed here. Local authorities, worried about the ill-fame of Mihara, organized the post of round-the-clock protection of the facility. An additional measure was the high fence of strong wire around the crater, but some desperate people continue the sad statistics of the sights.

Fiery mountain and culture

Fortunately, the volcano has won not only notoriety: it often appears in famous movies. For example, in the picture "Return of Godzilla" the authorities of the country imprison a monster in the crater of Michara. Five years later, in the continuation of Godzilla v. Biolante, the government releases the monster from prison, using explosives. Mentioned Volcano Mihara and in the famous thriller "Bell".
