World Chess Day

Chess is a sport that is popular all over the world. A lot of professionals and amateurs dive into this difficult, but very interesting game. There is even an international organization on the account of which various chess events - FIDE. And on July 20 , every year, World Chess Day is celebrated - a holiday dedicated to this wonderful sport and all who are involved in it.

The history of World Chess Day

Chess itself was invented in India . It is known that there in the 7th century they played a similar game - Chaturanga, which, incidentally, is the forerunner of not only chess, but many other similar games. In Russia, people discovered this game in the IX-X centuries.

The roots of the holiday lie in 1924, when the World Chess Organization, or FIDE, was founded in Paris, as mentioned above. It was in 1966 and this day was approved.

And before that there were attempts to create a holiday dedicated to this game, but it was FIDE that brought the matter to an end, and, in the end, it was recognized in many countries of the world.

Of course, on this day everyone is willing to participate in this game! The blessings and opportunities are: in many regions various chess tournaments, competitions and every possible thematic actions are arranged. Grandmasters (that is, chess professionals) also attend them, and such visits turn into amusing stories. For example, there is a case where one of them, Anatoly Karpov, played diamonds on such a day. It's easy to guess that they cost a lot of money.
