Zoo (Kingston)

In the capital of Jamaica , Kingston , there is a unique zoo, called Hope Zoo, which translates as "Zoo of Hope".

general information

Zope Park Hope Zoo was opened in 1961. Its main goal was to collect on its territory the maximum number of species of animals.

Until 2005, the institution was the property of the government within the framework of the Public Gardens project, the financing of which was inadequate. For this reason, the condition of many animals has greatly worsened, and some individuals even died. This fact greatly reduced the interest of visitors to the zoo. The management of Hope Zoo decided to look for charity funds, thanks to which the Center for Conservation of Nature (HZPF) became the head of the institution.

Administration of the zoo of Kingston consists of different layers of the population, but all of them are united by a love of nature. They have developed a plan for the rehabilitation and development of the institution, based on the positive experience of various international reserves and zakazniks. The main concept of this plan is the idea of creating a collection of animals that seem to tell the story of Jamaica.

There are 3 directions:

  1. Jamaican Paradise - this part contains local animal species, which the country is especially proud of.
  2. African Safari - shows what the past of Jamaica was, and how it affected the Aborigines. Here there are African animals and birds.
  3. American jungle - symbolizes the future of the country. Here lives a lot of primates, parrots, etc.
