Apathy - causes

Apathy is a special state of the soul when braking or lack of emotional reactions to any stimulation is observed, but all unconditioned reflexes are preserved. Apathy can occur due to external factors or due to illness.

The state of apathy can occur at any age, but older people suffer more often. The mechanism for the development of apathy is that, overexcited, nerve fibers lose for any period the ability to react to hormones of joy, shock, etc. The reasons for the appearance of depression are many.

So, many strong somatic diseases, in which a person has felt the line between life and death, lead to the development of indifference. For example, a person who survived a violent accident, ceases to pay attention to everything around him, and a few days can be in an emotional stupor. Also, people after a heart attack who have experienced severe pain and oxygen deficiency begin to think constantly about death and lose interest in everything that happens around.

Oncological patients often become apathetic, because they develop a sense of inevitable death. Still their emotions are dulled by strong psychotropic or narcotic drugs, which are prescribed by the doctor for the removal of the pain syndrome.

Why does apathy come?

Apathy can come because of major setbacks, almost collapse or "failure." So to cause an emotional lingering stupor can the loss of all property, a drastic change in the conditions of life not of one's own will, the sudden loss of a loved one.

Apathy in women often develops against a background of unrequited love. Since the girls are very emotional, falling in love often give "the whole soul", and once realizing that everything was done and wasted, many people are "enlightened". And at this moment two bright feelings are playing inside the woman - love of the ideal (often invented) and deep disappointment, because of this "cocktail" emotional burnout occurs and apathy occurs.
