Apistogram of cockatoo is one of the most common aquarium fish, the content of which is considered quite simple. They dwell in South America, inhabiting the small rivers, bays of rivers, which are located in the forests of Brazil, Peru and Bolivia. Their size can range from 5-7 cm (in females) and up to 8-12 cm (in males). They look quite powerful. And due to the variety of its color gamut, there are a considerable number of species of these fish.

The content of the apistograms is not at all complicated, although some skills are needed here. They will feel great even in a small aquarium (for example, four pairs of apistograms will be enough for an aquarium with a volume of forty liters). In order that these fish feel good, you need to remember a few rules:
- the water temperature in the aquarium should be about 20-24 degrees;
- water hardness - not to exceed 10 percent;
- the medium must be slightly acidic;
- the mineral content in water should be moderate;
- for the soil is best suitable pebbles or not very fine sand.
Before placing the primer in the aquarium, it must be poured with a solution of hydrochloric acid or a solution of water and vinegar, and then the ground should be washed with water. This procedure will clear it of limestone. Do not forget about creating comfort for your pets. Fish will feel more comfortable if at the bottom of the aquarium they can hide in shelters. As a hiding place for them you can use old flower pots, flat-shaped stones, driftwood or special caves and grottos. Another advantage of these fish is their resistance to various diseases. It is very difficult for them to get infected and most often they can tolerate the disease easily enough, and they are quickly restored. But there is an exception. One of them is collicariasis, which is also called the oral fungus. The main symptom of this disease is the white formations, which resemble vata in appearance.
To cure columbariosis in apistograms, you need only 5-6 times to make an infected fish with a bath using phenoxyethanol.
