This is the northern part of the country, where many amazing places are historically preserved. The city itself stands out among all the others with an unusual combination of new and modern with the ancient. In both of its parts for tourists, there are many entertaining places: the Upper Town with its strange structures and the Lower with its cultural, historical and creative heritage.
What to see in Bergamo - Upper Town
For impressions of the most beautiful ancient buildings, we leave for the Upper Town. The most visited tourist attraction in Bergamo is the Colletone Chapel. The chapel was erected as a mausoleum for General Kalleone. His grave is still there, and the structure itself is a synthesis of Gothic features of architecture and Renaissance traditions.
Very close to the beautiful basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. It is also ranked among the main sights of the city. These changes were mainly made in 1556, when the walls were noticeably dilapidated and the need arose not only for their complete reconstruction, but also for the additional strengthening of the city borders.

In the Lower Town there are also famous monuments of architecture and amazing places. To such places in Bergamo, rightly referred to as the Academy of Carrara. This is an art gallery and an art academy in one. In the 18th century, the famous collector and connoisseur of beauty, besides the philanthropist, Count Carrore, handed over his collection of paintings to the gallery. Gradually, the donations were collected and a new separate building was built, which could accommodate the entire collection of works of art. Today, these are three closely spaced buildings, in which there are two galleries and an academy.
In the vicinity of the city there are not less exciting places. For example, Villa Suardi is famous for its church. The structure was created in honor of the saints Barbara and Brigitte. Its interior decorates with its colors and drawings, which depicts the history of the family of Suardi and the construction of the church itself.
What is really worth seeing in Bergamo is natural landscapes and lakes. Lake Endina is about 6 km in length and completely covered with thickets of reeds. In its purest water reflects all the local slopes and ancient buildings. Here you can always meet young naturalists, artists and fishermen. Very close to the tourists are the nature reserve Valpredina and the excellent spa complex of San Pancrazio.
And finally, it is worth mentioning separately the funicular Bergamo, which connects the Lower and Upper cities. Believe me, a simple trip by car or bus will not give you as many impressions as a steep descent in a small trailer. During the trip you can see the sights of Bergamo and just feel the atmosphere of this town.
