In Russian folk tales, it is said that during a thunderstorm Saint Ilya rushes through the sky in a chariot and throws lightning on the ground to destroy evil spirits.
Signs associated with a thunderstorm
There are a large number of superstitions that are associated with this phenomenon of nature:

Signs of the first thunderstorm depending on the season
Spring:

- thunder and the west wind - rainy spring.
It is considered that until the first storm passed, spring has not yet changed its winter.
Summer:
- there is no morning of dew - closer to the evening one should expect a thunderstorm;
- July thunderstorm can last several days;
- crabs crawled outside and dig sand - wait for a thunderstorm.
Autumn:
- September thunder - ahead of warm weather;
- thunderstorm in October - winter will be warm and without snow.
- a thunderstorm came from the north - wait for a cold summer;
- the storm came from the south - the summer will be warm and with a bright sun;
- the morning thunderstorm - summer weather will not be hot or cold;
- a thunderstorm in the winter - wait bad weather.
Winter:
It is believed that during the first winter thunderstorm you need to wash with water from silver dishes to be beautiful and healthy the whole year.

In Russia, people had several ways to protect themselves and their home from lightning during a thunderstorm. For example, it was necessary to take charred branches from the fire, which was lit on the day of the summer solstice, and put them in the house or carry with them.
