Bucco Reef

In the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago there is an amazing landmark - Bucco reef. Today it has the status of a protected marine park and is located between the popular beaches in the Caribbean Sea by Pidget Point and Bucco Point, namely inside the Bucco lagoon.

The picturesque place is well known to the guests of the island. Annually the Reef is visited by more than 45 thousand tourists, many of them get acquainted with the reef, riding it on a boat with a transparent bottom. The more daring guests of Bucco Bay sink to the bottom with scuba diving and explore the reef and its rich fauna.

Once Bucco's reef was visited by Jacques Cousteau, the researcher appreciated the beauty of the underwater landscape and awarded him the third place on his list of the most spectacular and picturesque reefs in the world.

General information

Bucco Reef is located in the southwestern part of Tobago , about 6 km from the island's capital. The marine park covers an area of about 4.04 hectares. Thanks to such a large territory, the reef has become a home for many animals: sea turtles, sea bass, parrot fish, spinock and even more than 110 species of fish. Also, it is rich in different types of algae and marsh bogs, therefore, dipping under water to explore the park, you will see a beautiful seascape that will conquer its diversity and beauty.

A surprising feature of the reef is the Nylon Pool - it is a shallow pool in a reef with a sandy bottom, so the most popular tourist attraction in this place is to walk along the sandy bottom barefoot inside Bucco. It actually looks very impressive.

How to get there?

You can get to Bucco Reef from the port of Scarborough. From there excursions to this landmark are sent. There you will be offered a diving or a boat with a transparent bottom so that you can "get to know" better with the reef.
