Can I put the tiles on the tiles?

The installation of tiles is an important part of the repair, which sometimes can be done by real professionals. We need to carefully measure the dimensions of the room, then to use a certain system of masonry and as rarely as possible to resort to cutting tiles. In addition, the wall on which tiles are laid should be level and prepared for work. But is it possible to put a tile on a tile or other surface unpainted from the facing material? This and some other questions worry people who are going to do repairs. Let's try to figure it out.

What can I put a tile on?

The technology of the installation of ceramics provides for the preliminary preparation of the walls for the work. Then a dilemma arises: what is the best way to put a tile? The concrete and brick surfaces are most easily prepared. The wooden surface requires thorough and serious preparation. It is glued on the roofing material, on which is attached an iron net with a cell 10x10 mm or 30x30 mm. The net is fixed at 10-15 mm from the surface.

Some people, to avoid the difficult installation of the old tile or raise the level of the floor, put the tile on the tile. This construction course can be used only if the requirements are met:

  1. You should carefully inspect the layer of the old tile , tapping it with a hammer. If the plate rattles, then it means it does not lie firmly enough and it must be dismantled. The existence of blisters means that the old tile layer has peeled off the base and can not act as a base.
  2. Check the threshold level. The new tile should not be level with the threshold or even higher than it. This applies to the bathroom, where the spilled water will need to be collected in the corridor.
  3. It is necessary to prepare a layer of the old plate under the masonry. You can remove the glaze from the Bulgarian, make incisions or drill the surface. All this is done for a single result - to ensure good adhesion of the substrate to the adhesive base.

If you do not want to perform dusty work with bulgacs and hammers, you can use special primers designed for surfaces with little water absorption. Before applying to the old layer of primer tiles, it must be cleaned of grease and dirt. Apply the solution with a brush / roller. Use gloves when working. After applying the solution to the wall, it will become rough, and after drying on it you can fix a new tile.

How correctly to put ceramic tiles?

One of the most important moments when working with tiles is the choice of a solution. On what solution do they put the ceramic tile ? There are several options:

  1. Cement solution . Used for uneven knobby surface, as well as for wooden walls. First, a few control tiles - "lighthouses" - sit on the solution. They will determine the level of the lined surface. On small surfaces, there are enough four "beacons" placed in the corners. Do not forget to control the thickness of the cement solution in 10-15 mm. The width of the seams is regulated by wedges, which are then removed.
  2. Adhesive mastic . Nothing is different from cement masonry. Work begins with the bottom row. The straightness is determined with the help of a plumb or stretched thread. The wall is primed with a thin layer of mastic and then wiped with a damp cloth. On the back side of the tile is put a layer of mastic and the tiles are pressed against the primed surface. To evenly distribute the mastic on the tile, tap the bar.

Please note that for facing works it is extremely important to know at what temperature the tiles are laid. The hotter the temperature in the room, the faster the solution / glue will lose water and the more they will be needed. Low humidity also contributes to loss of moisture. It is best when in the room + 18-25 degrees C. At 5-10 degrees glue lasts longer, and at a negative temperature it generally becomes unusable.
