Diseases of guppies

The reason for the popularity of guppies among aquarists is not only their bright color, which pleases the eye, but also the unpretentiousness of care. In addition, guppies are quite resistant to many diseases, so they do not bring much trouble to their owners.

Guppy diseases and their treatment

Diseases guppies, like any other fish, are divided into infectious and non-infectious. So, despite the unpretentiousness of guppies, they should be followed regularly and properly. Otherwise, it can lead to an anomaly of your pets. For example, poor aeration promotes the growth of weak males. And if during the active growth of fish (about 4-5 months) do not diversify their diet, then this can lead to compression of the fins. But such diseases are treated quite simply - with the help of proper care and feeding.

But the infectious diseases that affect aquarium fish guppies, are treated not always:

  1. Mycobacteriosis . Still this disease is called fish tuberculosis. It manifests itself in the strongest depletion of fish and can not be treated. Ill animals are destroyed, and the aquarium and all its contents are thoroughly disinfected.
  2. Trihedinosis . Symptoms of this disease guppies are not very clear. Gray-blue plaque, covering the body or gills of a fish, is noticeable very weakly. Their behavior is alarming: they rub against the bottom of the aquarium, often swim to the aeration bubbles, and can swing from side to side. This disease is most terrible for fry and young, and adult guppies can be just carriers. Trehodynia is treated quite simply: the water temperature is heated to 34 ° C with enhanced aeration, add sodium chloride or methyl blue.
  3. Plistophorosis is also an incurable disease. It manifests itself in the pale color of fish and lack of appetite. In addition, in fish the position of the body changes - the head is sharply tucked up with the tail lowly lowered. When these signs of the disease manifest, you should destroy all fish without hesitation, boil all the contents, and disinfect the aquarium itself.
  4. Red scab . Even this guppy disease affecting the tail is called splitting of the fin. Only males are affected by this disease and can be cured only if the red scab has hit no more than a third of the caudal fin. Treatment is carried out with a conventional blade, which cuts off the red coating along with the tail, and then add salt to the aquarium (at the rate of two or three grams per liter of water).

But the most important condition for preventing infectious diseases of your fish is quarantine for newly acquired individuals and, of course, the proper care of pets.
