How to make a doll amulet?

The richer the family was, the more dolls there were in it. The mother put the first doll in the cradle. It is with this connected with the custom of showing the child to strangers only after the fortieth day, the doll guarded from the cloth of the baptismal crib protects the baby from unkind eyes. On the way, the mother, along with her mother's blessing, gave a doll, holding a bundle in her hands. In this little bag lay a pinch of native land. Called this doll Plantain.

At the wedding, the young were blessed with the icons of the Savior and the Virgin, bound their hands with a towel and handed a couple of dolls of wards, whose hands were made in a special way from one indivisible piece of cloth.

By tradition, the consecrated fabric could not be touched with a knife or scissors, so the matter was simply torn. This has spread to the use of needles. So, most often, the dolls were folded out of several flaps and threaded.

Usually, instead of the usual features, on the white ragged background of the face of the doll of the amulet from the threads, an Orthodox cross was made.

In various areas, Orthodox mothers, making dolls with their own hands, used except for pieces of kryzhma and other materials. In Ukraine and Moldova, dry corn leaves were often woven, in some regions of Ukraine only threads and pompons were used to make dolls. The dolls were made from straw and bast. The face was covered with a cloth of a kryzhma and dressed in the outfit adopted in this region.
