Egezkov

Egeskov Castle (Egeskov slot) - a fortress in Denmark , located in the southern part of the island of Funun . This unique building is one of the most important monuments of Renaissance architecture. The castle was built in the middle of a shallow lake, for the construction of vertical supports of the base of the castle had to cut down the oak forest, hence the name: Egeskov - "oak forest".

A bit of history

The castle Egeskov often changed the owners, but from 1784 it belongs to the family of Bijay. In 1883, the castle was a major reconstruction, which resulted in an increase in the height of the observation towers, new gates were built, and in the adjoining territory - a power station, a railway, a dairy farm.

To attract more tourists in the 20th century, another major reconstruction took place in Egeskov slot, during which many halls were restored, including the Banquet and Victorian halls. Since 1986, Egeskov in Denmark is open to tourists.

The architecture of the castle Egeskov

Egeskov's castle in Denmark was built in troubled times, when attacks of neighbors-feudal lords or riots of own peasants were frequent, in fact, according to Egek's architecture, the main goal of this structure is defensive.

The lock consists of 2 independent parts, connected together by a thick wall - in the case of a siege of one of the parts, the castle's defense can be kept from the second part. In the connecting wall, secret staircases and a well are constructed, along which it is possible to leave the fortress in the event of a long siege. The location of the castle - in the middle of the lake - was also chosen not accidentally: in the 16th century it was possible to get to Egeskov only by the lift bridge, which provided additional security to the castle.

The Danish castle Egeskov has a twin brother in Japan. In 1986, in Hokkaido, an exact replica of the Egeks was built in full size.

The territory of the castle and the halls of Egezkov

Inside the castle is divided into themed rooms. Because the owners of the castle live right there, then only a few rooms are free for tourists, but these rooms are worthy of attention. One of the open halls is the Hunting Hall, where hunting trophies are presented. The room served as the private office of Count Gregers Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bil, a great hunter of Africa. The hall is decorated with animal skins, next to which is attached an arrow, to which this trophy was mined.

The Yellow Room presents furniture from the Louis XIV era, donated by the Countess Jessy Bille Brahe in 1875. After the restoration in 1975, the Egeskov slot was restored to its original look, in which the visitors now see it. The room is decorated with a portrait of King Christian IV riding a horse. The hall, by agreement, can be rented. The Victorian Hall after the restoration in 1977 has the appearance of the middle of the XIX century. The music hall is decorated with Chippendale furniture and an antique piano.

In the Admiralsky hall of the castle Egesski local furniture and porcelain from Japan are presented. Special attention should be paid to the Palace of Titania, represented in this same room - about a century ago, "a small house for fairies in the garden" was built for a little girl. The house is furnished with real furniture.

There are several museums on the territory of the castle Egek, among them - a museum of retro cars with more than 300 exhibits, an agricultural museum and a museum of flying vehicles. The garden is a labyrinth of trees, the oldest beech tree in this labyrinth for several centuries.

Walking around the adjacent park will bring a lot of pleasure to the tourist, because it is decorated with several fountains, figures from shrubs, gardens and orchards. A huge bonus is the fact that in the nearby territory of the castle Egeskov in Denmark, tourists have the opportunity to completely free tent camp, you just need to leave a small bail.
