Advice for experienced tourists
Experienced tourists recommend to inspect not only Selyalandfoss, but also other waterfalls that are in relative proximity to the soaring. Therefore, if you are going to these places, be sure to provide in the travel schedule a few extra hours to inspect:
- the Glyufurarfoss waterfall (it is only 500 meters upstream) - streams of water fall into a narrow canyon, creating a unique picture;
- the Scougafoss waterfall - it is 28 kilometers away, near the village of Skogar .
If you want to spend the night in these places, camping on the Hamraghardyar farm will be the best option. The farm stands next to the waterfall.
By the way, going to these places, be sure to prepare the appropriate clothes and shoes, otherwise blot. It is better to take shoes with a firm sole so that you do not slip on wet stones.
It is best to come to these places in the warm months - from May to September, because in winter the water loses its strength, partially covered with ice, and therefore does not produce a strong impression on tourists. If you do not like crowds of tourists, want to walk around the waterfall in peace and quiet, take class photos without strangers, it's best to go here after dinner.
How to get there?
The waterfall is more than 120 kilometers from the capital of the country of the city of Reykjavik . The nearest settlement is the village of Skogar - almost 30 kilometers away. The easiest way to get to the waterfall is on the Sterna tourist sightseeing buses. This company conducts excursion trips.
From Reykjavik, the bus goes a little less than three hours, and from the village of Skogar - about 35 minutes. However, trips are only carried out during warm months. Booking and purchase of tickets is carried out on the site Sterna.
