Erythrazma - treatment

Bacterial disease, which affects only the upper layers of the epidermis and refers to the pseudomycosis of the skin, is called erythrasma. It is easy to diagnose, because when inspecting damaged areas with a Wood lamp, they are painted in bright red or brick color. Therapy is based on the use of antimicrobial agents, because it is the bacteria that causes the erythrasma - the treatment, mainly consists of taking and local application of antibiotics.

Modern conservative treatment of erythrasms

Given that the disease in question affects only the upper layers of the epidermis, usually only local drugs are sufficient. Erythromycin ointment helps in the treatment of erythrasms. It quickly dries and thoroughly disinfects lesions, provides protection against the spread of pathogenic microorganisms to neighboring areas of healthy skin. Similarly, sulfur-tar ointment works , but because of an unpleasant smell, patients rarely use it.

It is also necessary to regularly treat the upper layers of damaged skin with antiseptic solutions:

The application of these funds is carried out twice a day for 7 days. As a rule, this course is sufficient for erythrasms without attaching a secondary infection. Otherwise, the administration of systemic antibiotics of a wide spectrum of action is prescribed.

Ultraviolet irradiation is also shown. Staying in the sun or local UV-therapy provides a soft, but effective disinfection of the epidermis, preventing the recurrence of the disease.

It is worth noting that the treatment of erythrasma with clotrimazole and any other antimycotic drugs is inexpedient. The described pathology is provoked not by fungi, but by bacteria Corynebacterium minutissimum.
