Inflammatory eye diseases of an infectious nature can be caused not by a single type of bacteria, but by a combination of several species. The active component of this drug is tobramycin, its concentration is 3 mg per 1 ml of drug solution. The substance belongs to the group of aminoglycoside antibiotics. The spectrum of action against Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms is quite large:
- staphylococci;
- E. coli;
- streptococci (except for type D);
- Klebsiella;
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa;
- enterobacter.
In addition to tobramycin, the drops contain boric acid, sodium hydroxide and sodium sulfate, tilaxopol, purified water and preservative benzalkonium chloride.

The full course of therapy should not exceed 1 week, since the bacteria that caused the disease can become resistant to the antibiotic.
Although Tobrex has no other contraindications, besides the hypersensitivity to the ingredients of drops, it can lead to the following side effects:

- corneal ulceration;
- Pain in the eyes.
It should be noted that the drug can be used even during pregnancy, lactation and for newborns.

- Use the remedy for no more than 7 days.

This is necessary to increase the residence time of the necessary concentration of tobramycin in the conjunctival cavity.
Some ophthalmologists note that this type of drug should not be used in the treatment of children younger than 1 year.
