Fish parrot blacken

Sometimes you can see that such beautiful fish as parrots began to change their color a little, for example, here and there, dark spots appeared on the body, sometimes they appear only on the fins. The reasons for such a reaction of the fish can be several.

Age

Many fish with age may have dark spots at the ends of the fins. This is absolutely normal process for parrot fish. If your pet lives for a long time, and its behavior after the appearance of black spots has not changed, most likely, this is a manifestation of age-related changes. But why do black parrot fish turn black?

Water quality

Perhaps the reason that the parrotfish was covered with black spots was that the water you filled the aquarium with inadequate quality. This reaction often develops in excess of the amount of nitrites in the water. In this case, it is worth changing the water.

Another reason related to water can be its too low temperature. No matter how funny it may sound, fish can catch cold, too. Signs of this disease in parrot fish is the appearance of black spots on the gills and folded fins. In the case of such symptoms, you should gradually bring the water temperature in the aquarium to a comfortable 23 ° C.

Diseases

The appearance of black spots can also indicate the disease of your fish, associated with improper care for parrot fish. Such a symptom can manifest themselves following diseases:

  1. Branhiomycosis is a contagious disease, as a result of which the fish dies in a few days. It is manifested by the appearance of black bands on the body and head of parrot fish. The behavior of the water inhabitant changes too - the fish becomes inactive and swims upwards with a tail, as if its head is too heavy for the body. A sickly fish with such symptoms should be urgently isolated from other aquarium inhabitants and treated with a solution of copper sulfate, which in small doses is added to the water.
  2. Fin fungus is a disease that occurs most often because of inadequate conditions for keeping fish. If the aquarium is contaminated with food residues, the water in it is changing rarely or inadequately, then such a disease can arise both in parrot fish and in other species of aquarium inhabitants. Measures to prevent fin rot become careful care for the cleanliness of the aquarium.
  3. The larva of the kutikala is a parasite that can penetrate the aquarium, for example, if you decide to populate the fish from the natural reservoir.
