How to check vision?

Vision is the most important of the senses, with the help of which a person receives most of the information about the surrounding world, but, accordingly, the eye has a very heavy load, especially in the world of electronics and computer technology.

Methods of eye examination

In the CIS countries, the most common method of checking eyesight is the Golovin-Sivtsev table. Such a table consists of two parts, one of which contains letters decreasing to the bottom, and the second ring with ruptures in different directions. Both that and the other part of the table contains 12 lines, in which the rings and letters decrease in size from top to bottom. Such tables are available in the office of any oculist, as well as very often in optics.

Normal vision is considered, in which a person quietly distinguishes the tenth line from a distance of 5 meters, or, respectively, the first from a distance of 50 meters. The tables are marked in the decimal system, where each next line corresponds to an improvement in vision by 0.1.

With a decrease in visual acuity, it is determined by the line of the table that the patient sees, or, if it is below 0.1 (not the ability to distinguish the first line of the table from 5 meters) using the Snellen formula:

VIS = d / D

Where d is the distance from which the examinee is able to distinguish the first row of the table, D is the distance at which it is visible to the patient with normal visual acuity (50 m).

How correctly to check vision?

  1. To check vision follows at normal state of health, when eyes are not overloaded. Taking medication, disease and general fatigue can affect the result of the test.
  2. When carrying out a vision test, the table should be well-lit.
  3. Each eye should be checked separately, closing with the second hand. Closing the second eye is not necessary, it can affect the results.
  4. When carrying out the test, you need to look forward, do not tilt your head or squint.

Checking the eyesight at home

First of all, it is necessary to determine whether your eyes are experiencing excessive stress and whether there is a threat of vision loss. Answer for yourself yes or no to the following questions:

  1. Do you feel tired by the end of the day?
  2. Do you have a feeling of "sand" or burning sensation in your eyes, not caused by accidental contamination?
  3. Are the eyes watering?
  4. Does redness appear in the eyes?
  5. Do you find it difficult to focus your eyes?
  6. Is there a feeling of blurry and blurred vision?
  7. It happens that the image for a short time begins to double?
  8. Do you suffer from pain in the temporal areas?

If you answered yes, to three questions or more, then the eyes are overloaded and the probability of visual impairment is very high.

In order to check the vision on the computer, open the vordian file and type a few capital letters in random order, Arial font size 22. Set the page scale to 100%. In normal vision, a person should clearly distinguish letters from a distance of 5 meters. If this does not work, you need to come closer, and then multiply the resulting distance by 0.2. For a more accurate result, that the view was straight, and not at an angle, you can print out the resulting table and hang it on the wall. Also for checking the view of the house, you can use any book, with a letter size of about 2 mm. When the visual acuity of the corresponding units, the text should clearly differ at a distance of 33-35 cm from the eyes.

To check the binocularity of vision a few centimeters from the nose, vertically put a pencil, or other object. If binocular vision is normal, then all the letters in the text located at a distance of 30 cm will be prominent, despite the obstruction.

If checks at home have shown that there is a decrease in visual acuity, you need to see an oculist for more accurate diagnosis and treatment.
