Many of us on the walls still can be found whitewashing. This is easy to explain, because this method of decoration was very popular in former times and made the room quite neat. But everything is changing and today I want to refresh the room, choosing modern materials to cover the walls. Is it possible to paste wallpaper directly on the whitewash?
First of all, evaluate the quality of whitewash: if it crumbles, has cracks and it easily falls off on contact-it clearly indicates the need to get rid of such coating. In the case when the whitewash looks solid and distributed evenly - the wallpaper sticker on it is quite possible after some preparatory work.
Get rid of the old whitewash
So, we found out that you need to get rid of bad whitewash before you can wallpaper the walls with wallpaper. This should be done like this:
- put a warm water into the spray gun and take a spatula;
- sprinkling water on small areas, give it time to soften the whitewash and remove it with a spatula;
- wipe the wall with a damp cloth and allow to dry;
- Treat the wall with a primer before wallpapering.
We recommend that the floor be covered with old newspapers, because it will turn white due to such actions.
How to glue wallpaper on whitewashing?
In order to prepare a wall with a strong whitewash to pasting, the following preparatory work is required:
- Cover the walls with a high-quality acrylic primer several times. This will fix the old whitewash with the wall, protect the room from fungus and mold.
- Make a very weak solution of wallpaper paste, cover it with a wall and allow to dry. This will become a kind of foundation and strengthen the main layer of glue.
- Now you can safely glue wallpaper on whitewashing.
