How to plant a hyacinth in a pot?

Storage of hyacinth bulbs

Hyacinth - a plant that is characterized by a sufficiently long period of rest, so before planting in a pot you need to be able to keep it. Store hyacinth bulbs in a dry and cool place, from time to time checking that they do not dry out. When the planting time approaches, and it will not be until November, the bulbs should be carefully extracted from the shelter and proceeded to planting works.

Preparing the pot for planting

Take the selected pot in hand and put a drainage layer on the bottom. It can be gravel, broken shards from ceramic pots or expanded clay. Then the drainage layer is covered with sand, pouring it in a layer of 1,5-2 cm, and after that the pot is filled up to the top with a mixture of ground.

Now a few words about how to properly plant a bulb of hyacinth in a pot. There is in this one very important point - unlike other bulbous plants that need a complete immersion in the soil, the bulb of the hyacinth should be one third of the earth protruding. If several bulbs are planted in one container, the distance between them should not be less than 2.5-3 cm.

The bulbs so planted must be slightly compacted by pressing the soil around them with your fingers and then sprinkling with a thin layer of sand. After that, a mini-greenhouse made of a polyethylene bag is built over the pot, and this entire structure is sent to a cool dark place for a period of 6-10 weeks. From time to time, the ground in the pot should be watered. When the leaves get through the leaves, hyacinths can be transferred to a room with a temperature of +10 ... + 12 degrees. To move the hyacinths will react by dropping the leaves and the appearance of peduncles. After that, they can be transferred to a warm (+18 ... + 20 C) room and wait patiently for the buds to open.
