How to stop fulfilling someone else's duties?

It often happens that when the employee is dismissed, his duties fall on his colleagues. The management says that this state of affairs is temporary, even until the person is found in an empty position. And sometimes it happens that due to our responsibility we took on the work of another person a couple of times, because it was performed poorly and instead of pointing out mistakes, we corrected them ourselves. After a while we are surprised to notice that some of the responsibilities of the mistaken employee passed to us without any financial compensation. Well, or in the employment contract, the duties were not clearly spelled out, but you know very well that your job does not imply performing the work that you have to perform. People who find themselves in similar situations often do not see their way out and continue to perform other people's duties. The result is an exceptional workload and a lack of time and energy for personal life. Let's figure out how to get out of this trap.

Method 1

Appear to the authorities, describe the situation and ask for permission. Either you are released from someone else's duties, or you continue to fulfill them, but with a significant increase in wages. This statement is very much like an ultimatum, and therefore use this method is only in extreme cases, when in case of failure of the head to solve this situation, you are ready to put on his desk a statement of dismissal. If you combine your own and others' work due to the fact that you have not yet found another employee, then it is worthwhile to stipulate the terms in which you will be removed from other people's duties and the amount of your compensation for their performance.

Method 2

And what if to solve cardinally the issue of fulfilling other people's duties, there is no desire? Then it is worthwhile to cheat a little, well, to step on the throat of one's own performance and commitment.

  1. The main thing that you need to do in a day is your direct duties, and that's what you do. Other people's duties can wait until the evening, and if there is no time in the evenings, then you will surely take them tomorrow, of course, if you are free. And to the manager's question (the colleague, whose work you do), answer that you did not have time because of extreme employment.
  2. You are a great specialist in your field, but no one is perfect, and therefore you can show some incompetence on the foreign front of the work. Continue to do your work, as usual for five with a plus, but to other people's responsibilities you can take care of your sleeves, perform them a little worse. And when asked why you make mistakes, you say that this work is not yours, you do not understand it in full, and you have a lot of your own duties, and because of haste you allow errors. If the manager tells you that the employees of the company should be interchangeable, seriously think about whether you should continue your development in this company. An accountant who replaces a lawyer in the afternoon, and in the evenings washing floors in the office - is this really what you want?
  3. Never, do you hear, never offer your help to colleagues or a boss who complains that not everything is in time. It costs you a couple of times to do something for another person and everything, you will imputate it in duty, and then they will wonder why you ignore the execution of certain assignments. Do not rely on the integrity of colleagues and the head (although in real life they, perhaps, they are), they will be happy to sit on your neck and hang your legs. And the chief, instead of raising his salary, will throw more work. He decides that since you are coping with everything (and with your duties, and with others), then it's not a sin to load you - the "workhorse" needs to be used to the maximum!
