How to transplant the grapes in the fall?

Sometimes there are situations when it is required to transplant an adult bush of grapes to a new place or even to transport it to another locality. All these manipulations have a stressful effect on the plant and the survival rate of the bush after the transfer is 50%.

To increase the chances of grapes to take root in a new place, you need to know the rules how to transplant the adult grapes in the fall to another place. A simple algorithm of actions significantly increases the percentage of survival of bushes.

In what month should I transplant the grapes in the fall?

If the calendar is already September and autumn has officially begun, then this does not mean that you can start transplanting the bushes of grapes. You should wait for the fall of the foliage, that is, reduce the sap flow inside the plant, and only after that start work.

Usually transplanting of grape bushes begins in late October - early November, but for different regions and dates will be different, because weather conditions are not the same everywhere. It is important that before the onset of these frosts there are at least three weeks, then the bush will well survive its first winter in a new place.

How to transplant grapes in the fall?

With great attention should be given to transplanting bushes 5-7 years of age, because the older the plant, the longer it is sick in a new place and worse takes root. Shrubs after 7 years are best not to be postponed because they have almost no chance of life after transplantation. Accordingly, in young plants, things are much better.

The first thing to do is to prepare a pit for roots. Since they have grown and occupy a large area, the size of the hole should be about one square meter, and the depth is about the same.

At the bottom of the pit should pour a couple of buckets of cow dung and cover it with soil or fertilize with humus. In addition, superphosphate (200 g), ammonium sulphate (100 g) and potassium salt (30 g) are added as nutritious elements for the bush. Instead of potassium salt, ash (200 g) can be used.

All fertilizers are mixed with the ground, which will be filled with a pit. When manure is used instead of humus, the dosage of chemicals is reduced by half.

You can dig grapes with a clod of earth or partially with soil, but this is very hard physically, although for a plant such a transplantation is less traumatic. Most often, the ground is shaken off and immediately dipped roots into a chattle made of clay, mullein and manganese. If the bush is to be transported, they are also wrapped tightly in cellophane. Of the roots left two years 2-4 years old, as well as the roots of this year, but shortened by almost a third.

The roots are lowered into the pit, while slightly twisting, and the young roots of this year are located close to the surface - as provided in nature. The ground is filled up in separate portions with simultaneous condensation. For the autumn planting, watering is not necessary.

Above, the newly transplanted bush is covered with a mound of earth 20 cm high, which will protect the roots from freezing. In northern regions, cover material may be required. The next two seasons can not be given fruit to grapes - all the inflorescences should be cut off so that the forces go on rooting.
