Irises bearded

About iris bearded the first mentions are dated to thousands of years before our era. And do you know that Iris owes her beautiful name to the beautiful goddess Irid? Why did the ancient Greeks have such associations? According to the legend, Irida descended from heaven on a beautiful rainbow of the same different and bright colors as the color scheme of the inflorescences of these plants. Now this flower is very popular with gardeners, want to know why?

General information

It should immediately be noted that this flower has perfectly adapted to our harsh climate. It grows from year to year in one place, does not freeze in winter - it's just an ideal option for a gardener! Regardless of the sort of bearded iris, this plant perfectly tolerates the cold. Only in rare winters, when the temperature falls below -20 and there is no snow, it is worth covering them with a film. These plants feel great in the soil with an acidity of pH 6.8 or lower. If the acidity of the soil is increased, the plant will not perish, but instead of forming inflorescences, it will only grow in green mass. These plants do not like excess moisture, they are much more comfortable if the land is dry, so when growing irises of bearded water it is only superficially watered. If you know that the soil on the plot is moist, then it is better to add drainage to the root of the irises as a layer of expanded clay.

Many really like dwarf irises. These flowers are an exact reduced copy of their "older" brethren, but they have an increase of only 15-35 centimeters. Only one fact is upsetting: this sort does not have flowers with inflorescences of red color. Another interesting variety is tall bearded irises. These flowers grow to a height of more than one meter. By the way, from the combination of high and low irises you can make an amazing composition without much effort, because they need an identical in quality soil.

Reproduction of irises

Predominantly propagate bearded irises by dividing their root system. This manipulation is best done in August. If you do this in the specified period, the young plants will have time to develop the root system, and, therefore, without any problems, will be able to endure the winter. Let's look at how this is done. The plant, which plans to divide, removes the entire ground part, and the roots are shortened by half. We choose healthy parts of the root, the main thing is that they have so-called sleeping buds. The finished spine should be rolled in a charcoal and then dried a little. From this root, in the second year, will turn out to be a magnificent flowering young flower. Planting roots - a simple process, just dig a cone pit necessary for the plant depth (one-third of the length), and then put the seedling inside so that its tip with the kidney is facing north. Now, sprinkle the root with a fertile substrate, and that's it, it's done! Now, depending on the weather, the seedlings must be provided with moderate watering. Caring for bearded irises is not much more difficult than planting them, and still there are nuances, we'll talk about them later.

Care

To protect yourself from further worries, worry about plant health in advance. To do this, it makes sense to carry out in the spring treatment of fungicides and insecticides. Thus, two problems are solved at once: in one stroke you get rid of both insects and diseases. Dead leaves should be cut, around the plant to swell the soil, remove the weeds . All the "wounds" on the plant that remain after pruning, it is better to lubricate the most ordinary green. After they are a little dry, be sure to powder them with crushed charcoal.

Irises are the best friends of gardeners. If they provide timely attention and provide proper care, then there will never be a problem!
