This sculpture was presented to the city by the local Ukrainian diaspora of the country in honor of the 75th anniversary of the arrival of the first emigrants to Argentina from Galicia.

Before creating the monument, a competition among sculptors was held, where Leonid Molodozhanin, a well-known in his circles, who is a Ukrainian by nationality, won. Shevchenko, decorating streets and squares in the cities of Canada and the USA.

Next to the sculpture is an allegorical relief made by the Argentine master Orio da Porto from a solid granite stone. In 1969, on April 27, the first stone was laid, and the discovery occurred two years later - December 5, 1971. Since 1982, all costs for the care of the monument took over the Argentine fund named after TG. Shevchenko.
