Naphthyzine is one of the most common and available vasoconstrictor drugs, and many people with a cold take it on their own, without the appointment of a doctor. Naphthyzine, due to the action of the active component of naphazoline, provides a rapid effect, which is to narrow the surface blood vessels of the nasal mucosa and reduce the flow of blood to them. This reduces puffiness, decreases or stops the release of mucus, normal nasal breathing. Therefore, Naphthyzine is used from severe nasal congestion, as well as in the treatment of sinusitis, otitis, eustachiitis and laryngitis. Another indication for the use of this remedy is nosebleeds.

Proper use and dosage of naphthysine

For adults, Naphthyzine is used at a concentration of 0.1%. The dosage of such a solution is 1-2 drops in each nasal pass twice - three times a day. The drug can be used every 6-8 hours, but not more often. Duration of treatment with these drops should not exceed 5-7 days. At the end of this period, Naphthyzin ceases to have its effect, and there is an addiction to it. As a result, large doses and an increase in the frequency of administration are required to alleviate the condition.

In addition, with prolonged use of these drops and excess dosage, irritation and dryness of the nasal mucosa, edema, atrophic process may develop. Also, the drug can have systemic negative effects on the body, which is manifested in the appearance of headache, nausea, the development of tachycardia , increased blood pressure.

In some cases, doctors recommend that after a week of use, take a break for several days, then continue the treatment.

How to restore the nasal mucosa after Naphthyzin?

If, as a result of the use of Naphthyzine, the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity is damaged, then the patient suffers such symptoms as severe dryness and itching in the nose, nasal congestion, deterioration of the sense of smell. In this case, it is recommended to abandon this medication (however, it should be done gradually) and carry out frequent washing of the nose with saline solutions. Also, to moisturize and restore the mucosa, you can use oil drops without vasoconstrictor components, bury your nose with olive or sea-buckthorn oil.
