Ointment Bactroban

The external appearance of the drug under consideration is based on mupirocin, an antibiotic with a wide spectrum of activity against aerobic gram-positive and anaerobic gram-negative microorganisms.

Mupirocin is a chemical compound with a particular structure and specific mechanism of action, through which it can be used in conjunction with other antibiotics without the risk of developing cross-resistance. Moreover, it rarely develops resistance in pathogenic microorganisms.

In addition, macroburn is included in the external ointment of Baktroban.

The nasal form of the preparation contains the same active ingredient, mupirocin. But the auxiliary substances in it are different - soft, white paraffin.

It is worth noting that the concentration of antibiotic in both types of ointment is the same and is 2%.

Indications and use of nasal ointment Bactroban

The presented drug is recommended for the therapy of local nasal cavity diseases, which are caused by any pathogenic microorganisms sensitive to mupirocin.

Also, ointment for the nose Bactroban is prescribed for the carriage of Staphylococcus aureus strains, including types resistant to methicillin.

Method of application:

  1. It is good to clean the nasal passages or wash them.
  2. With a special plastic applicator place a little (pea, the size of a match head) ointment in each nasal passage.
  3. Tightly squeeze the nostrils with your fingers and do a light massage so that the remedy is better and more evenly distributed in the nasal cavity.

Scheme of treatment and its duration are individually selected by the otolaryngologist. As a rule, you should lay Bactroban in your nose 2 times a day, not more than 5 days.

In rare cases, the course of antibiotic use is prolonged up to 10 days, but only in accordance with the appointment of a doctor.

Treatment of lesions is as follows:

  1. Clean the damaged areas of the skin, disinfect them.
  2. Apply a thin layer of ointment on the treated areas, do not rub.
  3. If necessary, apply a gauze bandage on top of the drug, a sterile bandage.

After using the medication, you should wash your hands.

The procedure for applying the ointment should be repeated up to 3 times a day, depending on the prescriptions of dermatologists.

The course of treatment lasts from 7 to 10 days, further use of the drug is inappropriate, can provoke the development of superinfection.

Contraindications to ointment Bactroban

Nasal drug with mupirocin can not be used in pediatrics and with individual intolerance to the active ingredient. Outer ointment is contraindicated in the same cases. With caution, it is prescribed, if necessary, to treat large areas of the skin with renal insufficiency in the anamnesis.
