Oxapampa-Ashaninka-Janesha in Peru is a biosphere reserve, occupying the territories of the provinces of Pasco and Oxapampa. The reserve covers an area of about 1.8 million hectares and is considered one of the largest similar reserves in the world.
What to see?
The flora and fauna of the reserve impresses with its diversity: here there are such rare animals as the Andean bear or pygmy deer pood, and the species of birds is amazing - more than 1000 species of birds live in the reserve.
Currently, there are 10 communities of Indians, cultural traditions of which assume a careful attitude to natural resources. However, despite their efforts, the area of forests and biological diversity are decreasing every year. For these reasons, the reserve has become a protected area, rational use of resources has been observed by both regional authorities and various public organizations, protection measures against poachers have been developed, and a great emphasis has been placed on the development of ecotourism in this region of Peru .
