Oxapampa-Ashaninka-Janesha


Oxapampa-Ashaninka-Janesha in Peru is a biosphere reserve, occupying the territories of the provinces of Pasco and Oxapampa. The reserve covers an area of ​​about 1.8 million hectares and is considered one of the largest similar reserves in the world.

What to see?

The flora and fauna of the reserve impresses with its diversity: here there are such rare animals as the Andean bear or pygmy deer pood, and the species of birds is amazing - more than 1000 species of birds live in the reserve.

Currently, there are 10 communities of Indians, cultural traditions of which assume a careful attitude to natural resources. However, despite their efforts, the area of ​​forests and biological diversity are decreasing every year. For these reasons, the reserve has become a protected area, rational use of resources has been observed by both regional authorities and various public organizations, protection measures against poachers have been developed, and a great emphasis has been placed on the development of ecotourism in this region of Peru .

When to visit and how to get there?

You can reach the reserve by public transport - by bus from Pasco-Oxapampa or by train to Cerro-de-Pasco. The reserve operates daily from 8-00 to 17-00 hours, the entrance fee for an adult person is 5 salts, for a child - 1.5.
