This drug is not new, it was developed about 40 years ago by Soviet scientists. Nevertheless, this tranquilizer still remains the most effective remedy among such medicines. Also, there is another advantage that Phenazepam possesses - side effects after its administration are very rare and, as a rule, poorly expressed, which ensures a good tolerability of the drug.
Side effects of phenazepam
All negative symptoms are divided into several groups, depending on the organs that are exposed.
With regard to the peripheral and central nervous system, such side effects of phenazepam are observed:
- dizziness;
- ataxia;
- drowsiness;
- decreased ability to memorize and concentrate attention;
- constant fatigue;
- unstable gait;
- disorientation;
- confusion of consciousness;
- delayed motor and mental reactions.
This group of symptoms occurs at the very beginning of the course of treatment, more often in elderly patients, and usually disappears on its own 7-9 days later.
Very rare side effects:
- tremor;
- headache;
- impaired coordination of motor activity;
- euphoria or depression;
- uncontrolled movements of muscles, including ocular;
- depressed mood;
- myasthenia gravis;
- outbreaks of aggression and anger;
- dysarthria;
- epileptic seizures in the presence of epilepsy;
- fear;
- asthenia;
- increased psychomotor excitability;
- inclinations to suicidal behavior;
- hallucinations;
- anxiety;
- irritability;
- muscle spasms;
- insomnia.
On the part of the hematopoiesis system, the following side effects of Phenazepam tablets take place:
- anemia;
- leukopenia;
- agranulocytosis;
- thrombocytopenia ;
- neutropenia;
- hyperthermia.
With regard to the digestive system, the intake of a medicine can be accompanied by such signs:
- vomiting;
- heartburn;
- nausea;
- dry mouth;
- diarrhea or constipation;
- jaundice;
- impaired liver function;
- decreased appetite.
Side effects of the genitourinary system:
- impairment of kidney function;
- delay or incontinence;
- dysmenorrhea;
- decrease or abnormal libido increase.
Side effects of Phenazepam in case of an overdose
If the dose was exceeded slightly, it is possible to increase the tranquilizer effect of the drug, as well as the appearance of allergic reactions on the skin - rash, itching, urticaria.
A strong deviation from a normal portion is characterized by an obvious oppression of respiratory and cardiac activity, consciousness. Prolonged use of phenazepam in high dosages provokes drug dependence, similar to the drug. The side effects are:
- lowering blood pressure;
- diplopia;
- weight loss;
- tachycardia;
- withdrawal syndrome with a reduced dose or complete discontinuation of medication;
- nervousness;
- spasms of skeletal and smooth muscles;
- Perceptual disorders (paresthesia, hyperacus, photophobia, acute psychosis);
- dysphoria;
- increased sweating;
- depression;
- depersonalization.
Contraindications and side effects of Phenazepam
It is forbidden to use the described medicine in such cases:
- myasthenia gravis;
- coma;
- shock state;
- acute attack of angle-closure glaucoma;
- chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in severe form;
- acute respiratory failure.
The use of phenazepam in pregnancy, especially during the first trimester, and breastfeeding is also undesirable because of the possibility of developing such symptoms in the child:
- inadequate development (fetus);
- suppression of cerebral, sucking activity;
- allergic reactions.
