Endometrial biopsy is a gynecological operation aimed at diagnosing diseases of the uterus. To conduct it, microscopic tissue cells are taken and sent to the study. This method is used to detect pathological processes of the endometrium, identify the causes of uterine bleeding, diagnose carcinoma, etc.

Indications for use:
- identification of causes of infertility;
- determination of the causes of bleeding during hormonal therapy and contraception;
- diagnosis of painful bleeding in women over 40;
- at complex research at carrying out of diagnostic hysteroscopy and transvaginal ultrasound;
- in case of risk of spreading of cancer cells, endometriosis, etc.
A pinpoint biopsy is performed on the 7-13 day of the menstrual cycle. Before the procedure, the microflora of the smear is examined. It is advisable in the pre-operation period to refrain from drinking alcohol, exclude thermal procedures and excessive physical exertion.
Endometrial biopsy - consequences
The study may lead to some complications:
- development of infection at the site where the biopsy was performed;
- bleeding from the blood vessels of the cervix;
- moderate pain in the lower abdomen;
- bloody discharge.
The listed consequences of aspiration biopsy of the uterus are very rare, less than 0.5% of the total number of procedures. Pain and discharge of blood often occur within 3-7 days. With abundant bleeding, blood-resurfacing manipulations are carried out, up to suturing the uterus. And in the case of inflammations and infections, it is necessary to undergo a course of antibacterial treatment.
