The number of abortions in the world is gradually but declining. This is a significant plus. However, doctors faced a serious problem - criminal abortion. Their number is inexorably growing. First of all, illegal operations are carried out by residents of countries of South America and Africa, in many of them abortions are prohibited.

Illegal methods often lead to serious consequences. 70 thousand women, according to doctors, are killed as a result of criminal abortions.

Statistics of abortions in Russia

For a long time the country was in the lead in terms of the number of abortions. In the 90 years it was 3-4 times higher than the number of abortions in the US, and in 15 - in Germany. Back in 2004, the United Nations placed Russia first in the world in terms of the number of abortions. Today, the figure has significantly decreased, but it remains quite high. According to various sources, from one and a half to three million women are solved every year in Russia for interruption of pregnancy . This is only the official statistics of abortions - doctors say that the figure must be multiplied by two.

CIS countries

The largest number of abortions per 100 births in the entire post-Soviet space was accounted for by Russia, followed by Moldova and Byelorussia. Today the trend in the CIS countries is similar to the Russian one. Thus, the statistics of abortions in Ukraine shows that the number of such operations has decreased by 10 times in 10 years. Approximately 20% of Ukrainians annually decide to interrupt pregnancy, and this is about 230 thousand women.
