Temples of Tula

In the old and beautiful Tula is a large number of churches and temples. There are about 30 Orthodox parishes in the city and the district. However, in addition to Orthodox churches in Tula, there are also Catholic and Protestant churches, the parish of the Russian Orthodox Old Believer Church, as well as Muslim, Jewish, Krishna and Buddhist organizations.

Temple of Dmitry Solunsky

The temple was founded in 1795 on the territory of the Chulkovsky cemetery. Six years later the temple of Dmitry Solunsky in Tula was built, but played its role only as a cemetery temple, in which the parish was not performed. The entrance for the parishioners was only opened in the middle of the XIX century. And in the years that followed, the church did not close even during the Soviet rule.

Temple of St. Sergius of Radonezh

The consecration of the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Tula, made in a pseudo-Byzantine style of red brick, took place at the end of the XIX century. A few years later, the interior of the temple was painted by artist N. Safronov. At the beginning of the 20th century, the orphanage, a medical institution and three parochial schools were established at the temple. During the Soviet era, the work of the temple was suspended, and only after the collapse of the USSR in the church were restored daily services. Now the Sunday school for children has been created at the church.

Saint-Znamensky Temple

The Holy-Znamensky Temple of Tula was created at the beginning of the 20th century from red brick. A distinctive detail of the interior of the church was the marble iconostasis, which was moved to the Church of the Savior after the closing of the church. Today, the Church of St. Znamensky again accepts parishioners.

Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Annunciation Church is among the oldest temples and churches in Tula. In addition, it is also the only architectural monument of the 17th century in the city that has survived to our times. Initially, the building of the Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Tula was made of wood. The stone building was erected already in the last years of the XVII century. The Annunciation Church is a wonderful example of a classical five-domed church in the Moscow style.

Nikolo-Zaretsky temple

The temple was founded by the son of Nikita Demidov, a well-known master of weaponry. Nicholas-Zereitsk temple of Tula is an important cultural monument and serves as a burial vault for the Demidovs family, in connection with which is also called the Demidov church. In the Soviet period, the building of the church was recognized as a monument of federal significance and guarded. At the end of the 20th century, several attempts were made to restore the church, but the projects either were not completed, or they were performed poorly. At the beginning of the XXI century, work on the restoration of the temple was resumed. But some mistakes of previous unsuccessful restorations could not be eliminated.
