Water snails are the orderlies of the aquarium. They absorb the remains of food that have not eaten fish, clean the algae leaves. Many experts advise first of all to populate the aquarium with snails. Thus, snails are of great importance in the life of the aquarium. Let's find out how aquarium snails breed.
Aquarium snails - reproduction
There are several varieties of aquarium snails, and they multiply all in several different ways. Consider these features.
Coil Snails
The coil snails are common. These molluscs are same-sex, so it's not necessary to have a couple of coil snails in order to multiply them. It will be enough and one individual. Snails lay eggs on the walls of the aquarium, stones or leaves of aquatic plants. Often happens that, having bought any water plant, together with it you will get and eggs. Later, small snails will appear from them. Reproduction of aquarium snails of coils occurs very quickly, and soon the aquarist will puzzle over how to get rid of the surplus of these mollusks.
Ampularia
Ampularia are considered to be one of the most popular inhabitants of aquariums. Therefore, many amateur-aquarists are interested in how the yellow aquarium snails of the ampularia multiply. Reproduction of the aquarium snail ampularia occurs in the air. She lays eggs above the water level: on the walls or the upper glass of the aquarium. Large ampullaria eggs are collected in a dense masonry, similar to a bunch of grapes. Its maturation takes place within 2-4 weeks.
By the way, you should know that the ampularia are dioecious: among them there are both female and male individuals, but it is very difficult for a person to distinguish between them. Therefore, if you want to dilute the ampullar, you should purchase up to five individuals, among which surely will come across both female and male.
Melania
A viviparous snail, called melania , multiplies very quickly and unproblematically. They dwell in the ground. Thanks to these mollusks, the soil constantly loosens and does not sour. The snail that appeared is about 1 cm in size and is an exact copy of its parents. Due to the speed of reproduction, melanias can soon fill the entire aquarium, and the question of reducing their number will arise. But it will be quite difficult to do this.
Water snails are beneficial and serve as an ornament to the aquarium. However, it is necessary to monitor their reproduction, since too overgrown a population of these mollusks can destroy all aquatic vegetation.
