All species of newts are beautiful, the most beautiful is the alpine newt. The crested newt reaches a length of 18 cm, all other species do not grow more than 13 cm. During breeding, aquarium newts acquire a more vivid color, and on their back they grow a scallop.

Triton content in the aquarium

There are several requirements that, if done, you will protect your newts from diseases, and they will live a long time, pleasing you with their amusing behavior and bright exotic coloration:

  1. A terrarium or an aquarium may be unheated, but it must necessarily have a dry part. Tritons live in water, but sometimes they get out on the land to warm themselves. You can buy a special aquarium, or in the usual make a "raft", fixing it with a homemade "anchor". You can also make a "Tritonium Island" from gravel or sand. The volume of the aquarium should be at least 15 liters per tritone.
  2. You can keep tritons and several individuals, they get along very well with each other. But with other fish, newts may not get along, since few fish prefer such a low water temperature (+ 21 ° C or lower). Amphibians are cold-blooded and overheating can become fatal. Some aquarists combine in one aquarium newts with guppies, neon and goldfish. These fish will not harm newts, and they themselves will stay away from them.
  3. Tritons do not pollute the water, but it is desirable to have at least one filter in the aquarium, especially if there are plants in it. Water should be used stagnant, but not boiled.
  4. If there are living plants in the aquarium, then the question of illumination is important. If there are no plants - newts are not at all demanding of light, lamps can not be set at all.
  5. Tritons are not touched by greens, but snails can be eaten. Tritons also eat their skins after moulting, making it easier for you to clean the aquarium.
  6. Feed the newts in a day with small fish, bloodworms, earthworms, you can give finely crumbled boiled fish, meat, liver. Once a month it is advisable to arrange a fasting day. It is important to use vitamins and trace elements.
  7. Tritons very well reproduce at home. The female is transplanted into another aquarium with dense vegetation, which will help small tritons to hide after birth and survive.
  8. Do not take the pet in your arms. He will not harm you, but you can. The temperature of the newt is on the average 18 ° C, yours is 36.6 ° C. Triton can "burn" on your hand.
  9. Tritons can hibernate for the winter. To do this, they need to create a temperature regime from 0 to 10 ° C, depending on the variety.

The content of the aquarium newt will not give you any trouble. They are neat and unpretentious. With good care, aquatic newts will live up to 27-30 years.

Diseases in aquatic newts are the same as in aquarium fish. Before you start treatment, you need to correctly put the newly diagnosed newt diagnosis. Infection in the aquarium can get on the leaves of plants, on decorative elements, with food, the disease can occur from a temperature drop or poor water. In any case, it's better to invite a specialist to the house to see your newts, put a correct diagnosis and prescribe a treatment. Often, tritons have oncological diseases, which are treated surgically.

Having planted a newt in your aquarium, you will become the owner of a good-natured sweet dragon.
