As in the case with the addition of new soil, the old one must be regularly sifted for the content of excrement, food, algae in it. Large stones must be extracted from the aquarium and put in any container, filling them with water with the addition of any bleach for washing at a rate of 1 tbsp. l. for 500 ml of warm water. Wet stones can also be rubbed with a sponge with the addition of baking soda. Before you return the stones to their place, do not forget to rinse them thoroughly.
