The principle of the thermos device is simple, like all ingenious - metal or plastic housing with a bulb of glass or stainless steel inside, between which there is a rarefied vacuum cavity. Despite the same principle of operation, the thermoses, however, have different technical characteristics and in order to ensure that the vessel does not disappoint its owners, it is important to approach it responsibly, taking into account all requirements and wishes.

How to choose a good thermos?

Before you make an acquisition, you should answer yourself a few questions regarding its use:

  1. What are you going to store in the thermos? The fact is that it is impossible to choose a universal option for storing both drinks and food. If you expect to pour tea or coffee in a thermos, then it's better to stop on a model with a narrow throat. If you want to please yourself with warm soups and other hot dishes, it is optimal to buy a special thermos for food - with a wide throat.
  2. Where and in what conditions do you plan to use it? So, for long trips, a thermos of a large volume, 2-3 l. To brew herbal teas at home, it is better to start from the number of family members and take a smaller thermos, for 1-2 liters. If you plan to use the thermos for yourself, for example, in the office, it is better to choose a compact version, up to 1 liter or a thermo mug.
  3. The choice of the material from which the flask is made - glass or stainless steel depends on the conditions of use.
  4. How long should I store the temperature? The question of how long the thermos keeps the heat, it is necessary to ask in relation to a particular model. This characteristic depends on several factors: the material of the bulb, the design and tightness of the plug, sufficient vacuum in the cavity between the body and the bulb. By the way, the material of the case itself does not play a role: for the same parameters listed above, a metal thermos, for example, with a glass bulb, will store heat for as long as a plastic one.

Thermoses with a stainless steel flask are more practical, durable and retain the temperature of the contents longer. But, nevertheless, they can not completely oust their competitors from the market - thermos with a glass bulb, despite the fact that they are more fragile and inferior in terms of heat resistance.

The main reason why it is recommended to make a choice in favor of a thermos with a glass bulb in its hygiene. Glass is easy it is washed and does not absorb smells - after ginger tea in it it is possible to brew coffee safely, without fear of mixing of aromas. It is for this reason that thermos for food is most often made with a glass bulb.

Separately, we should mention a variety of thermos designs. The most usual option - with a cork and an unscrewed lid, as a rule, is convenient for small volumes. If you are determined to buy a large thermos, for example, for a large family or use in the office, it is best to give preference to a thermos-pitcher with a glass bulb. It is equipped with a convenient button-pomp that allows you to pour the contents without unscrewing the cork and not tilting an impressive vessel.

As for the operation of a thermos with a glass bulb, there is a small trick - before you pour hot contents into it, you must first fill it with hot water and leave it for a while to warm the bulb. After that you can fill it with a drink. This will prolong the retention of the liquid temperature by 2-3 hours.
