Treptow Park in Berlin

Friendly Berlin, being the largest city in Germany, remains one of the greenest megacities of the European Union. Surprisingly, there are over 2500 parks and squares here. One of the most famous in Germany is Treptow Park. About him and will be discussed.

Treptow Park in Berlin

The park was laid back in 1876-1888 under the project of Gustav Mayer in the eastern district of Treptow, where the name came from.

The park immediately became popular among the citizens, there were folk festivals, festivals and fairs, for example, the Berlin Fair of Crafts. Later, the western part of the park was decorated with the sculpture of the founder - Gustav Mayer.

On the territory of the park in 1946 it was decided to install a memorial to the dead of the Soviet Army in the battles for Berlin. The monument to a soldier in Treptow Park appeared here in 1946 thanks to the work of a sculptor and architect: Yevgeny Vuchetich and Yakov Belopolsky.

In the central part of the large ennobled meadow stands a bronze cast figure of a Soviet soldier 12 meters high, which in one hand holds a child rescued in battle, and the other - cuts through the sword fascist swastika. It is noteworthy that the prototype for the sculpture of the Warrior-Liberator in Treptow Park was Nikolai Masalov, who really saved the girl during the storming of Berlin.

In the middle of the last century, rose and sunflower gardens, new picturesque alleys, a fountain, new sculptures were installed. As the park goes to the river Spree, a small pier for pleasure boats is built on the shore.

How to get to Treptow Park?

The easiest way to drive to Treptow Park by train S9 or S7 to Ostkreuz. Then you need to get to the Treptower-Park stop on the S41 or 42 ring line. The buses (routes 265, 166, 365) also go to the park: they need to get off at Sowjetisches Ehrenmal station (Soviet Memorial). Entrance to the park leads through a beautiful stone arch.
