Trongsa-dzong

The most impressive dzong of the Kingdom of Bhutan is the Trongsa-dzong, which is located in the heart of the city of the same name . He became a real pearl of the country, a legendary relic and hereditary fortress. What the monastery of Trongsa-dzong conceals in itself, we will tell you in this article.

Value and architecture

Like all temples in Bhutan , Trongsa Dzong was originally created to protect against external attacks. It is located on one of the hills, above the gorge, the passage of which is carefully controlled to this day. The name of Trongsa-dzong is translated as "new settlement". Indeed, this huge monastery has about a dozen buildings along which lanes and even small retail outlets are located. Naturally, in these streets, as in the rooms, the symbolism is observed, there are statues of Buddha and sketches on the walls of sacred books.

The building of the Trongs-dzong is divided into two parts: the first - the monastery, and in the second - the administration of the dzonghag. In December and January, the famous festival "The Trongs Festival" is held in the walls of the site .

How to get there?

It is impossible to reach the monastery's building, only to the foot of the hill. Before the main gate you will have to climb yourself along already laid paths. The trip lasts up to 1.5 hours (depending on the physical form). Conduct a tour in the monastery, you can only when accompanied by a guide and it must be agreed in advance with the travel agencies.
