The most famous waterfalls in Sweden

Although the country's area is significant (447,435 square kilometers), there are relatively few waterfalls here. But those that are, deserve to visit each of them:

  1. Ristafallet is one of the largest waterfalls in the country, located on a hill 355 m high above sea level. It is in the west in the province of Jamtland. Part of the river, where the falls falls, resembles a huge amphitheater. The 50-meter width impresses even the experienced tourists. The rate of water drop here is from 100 to 400 cubic meters. m / sec. The ecosystem around the waterfall is protected by the state. In the vicinity there are many unique representatives of the flora and fauna of the northern edges. You can reach the sights by the road E14. There is an opportunity to rest for several days in a campsite on the river bank. It is also interesting that the waterfall Ristafallet in 1984 was filmed in the film "Roni, the daughter of a robber" (based on the story Astrid Lindgren).
  2. Tannforsen - the most powerful waterfall in Sweden, is located near the village of Duved and 22 km from the resort of Ore . Its height is 38 m, the rate of water fall from 200 to 400 cubic meters. m / sec. The adjacent area is as interesting as the waterfall itself. Due to the humid climate, many plants and unique tree lichens grow here (21 species), you can see rare species of animals. From February to April, there is an opportunity to get into a cave located under a waterfall. Nearby is the park, where in the cold season sculptures are built of snow and ice.
  3. Newcastle (Njupeskar) - the highest waterfall. Its height is 125 m, 93 m in free fall. In winter time it turns into "icefall". It is located in the north-west of the country, on the River Newpont, flowing through the territory of the National Park Fulufjellet . The surrounding nature surprises with a variety of birds and animals. By the way, the symbol of the area is the bird of the kuksha and one of the oldest firs of the world called Old Tikko: it is about 10 thousand years old.
  4. Hammarforsen (Hammarstrand) is the youngest waterfall in the country, located in the east of Sweden. Violinist Albert Brannlund even composed in his honor a tune called him "Hammarforsen's Noise". In 1920, at this point, they decided to build a power plant, and eight years later the first unit was commissioned.
  5. Trollhattan is the most unusual waterfall in Sweden. It was located near the town of the same name on the river Geta-Elv. The waterfall has 6 rapids and a height of 32 m. It is interesting that the waterfall is managed by people, including it in the summer from 15:00 to 15:30. The schedule is explained by the regulation of wastewater, its volume is sufficient only for 30 minutes. In the rest of the time, it is a thin stream, making its way through piles of stones. Tourists can, if desired, swim in the river or ride a boat.
  6. Storforsen (Storforsen) - the most northern and gentle in the country waterfall. In the nature reserve, on whose territory it is located, the most violent rapids of the rivers are 80 m high. Everything is surrounded by forests, vegetation, flowers and blackberries. In summer, vacationers can take a dip in the natural swimming pool, stroll along the numerous paths, relax and have a picnic.
  7. Danska Fall in Halmstad is a beautiful and relaxing place for nature lovers. It has several rapids, and the flow of water is not strong here.
