What is a SLR camera?

Now we distinguish two types of cameras - compact digital (popularly known as "soapboxes") and professional mirror (popularly known as "SLRs"). With the first, in principle, everyone is familiar, but what does the phrase "mirror camera" mean? Nothing complicated in this term, in fact, no. Mirror camera is called because it has an optical viewfinder, consisting of a mine in which one or more mirrors are installed.

In general, the difference between a SLR camera and an ordinary digital camera is, first of all, as the received pictures. This is why you can often hear an adjective "professional" in relation to a SLR camera, since professional photographers use "SLR cameras", leaving "soapboxes" for fans.

But let's take a closer look at what a mirror camera is better than a digital camera, and what is worse is worse.

The better the SLR camera?

Advantages of a SLR camera are great, after all the technique is professional.

  1. Matrix . So, this will be the first undisputed advantage on the list. Everyone knows such a thing as a megapixel, which is often mentioned in camera advertising. If we take it into account, then some digital cameras make photos of the same quality as mirror ones, but in reality this, of course, is not the case. In general, megapixels can be called just a thought-out marketing move. Why? Let's figure it out. In fact, the quality of the photo is affected not by the number of megapixels, but by the size of the matrix, which digital cameras have considerably less than mirror images. On small matrices "soapbox" manufacturers are able to accommodate a huge number of megapixels, but it still will not give a photo of the same quality as on a mirror camera with a larger matrix.
  2. The lens . The lens is another huge plus of the "SLR camera", because with its help the pictures are more clear. In addition, since almost all SLR cameras operate with a removable lens, this also provides space for creativity.
  3. Speed of shooting . Mirror camera can make an average of five frames per second, which will allow among all the frames to choose the one that turned out best. Manufacturers argue that digital cameras are also capable of this, but like megapixels, this is just a tricky marketing move. Digital cameras take video, from which then take footage, the quality of which leaves much to be desired, and mirror cameras each frame is taken separately, that is, the quality of the photo will be at the highest level.
  4. The battery . And, of course, the battery in the "SLRs" is much more powerful. After a good charge you can make about 1000 photos, or even more. The "soap box" will shoot no more than 500 shots, that is, half less, and then you will need to recharge the camera.

But, of course, any device has flaws and a mirror camera will not be an exception.

  1. The cost . Price, perhaps, is the biggest drawback of a SLR camera, because it is much higher than the price of a digital camera. In addition, additional lenses, if you need them, are almost the same as the camera itself. But because for the quality of the photo you have to pay, do not you?
  2. The size . Many are also frightened by the size of the camera, because "SLR" can not be put in the jacket pocket to take a photo for a walk. I need a special bag .
  3. Complexity . The complexity of the SLR is also frightening. But, in fact, having studied the educational brochure, it can be learned as easily as a digital camera.

In general, we figured out what a mirror camera is and what it's eaten with. Finally, you can say that if you do not need photos of much higher quality and you do not intend to professionally deal with photography, then a simple digital camera is enough for you. But, as always, the choice is yours.
